André de Gruy
On July 6, 2001, the Governor appointed André de Gruy as
the first director of the Office of Capital Defense Counsel. Before
appointment, Mr. de Gruy served as an assistant public defender in Hinds
County. He is the past president of the Mississippi Public Defenders
Association and has been recognized with "Life Member" status. Before
joining the staff of the public defender office, he served as a staff
attorney and later director of the Mississippi Capital Defense Resource
Center, a non-profit law office handling death penalty litigation. Mr.
de Gruy opened the Office of Capital Defense on August 1, 2001.
